It Takes a Village – The AdventurUs Team
I have a confession to make. I am not good at asking for help. Actually, I am really bad at it. Why? I don’t want to impose on others. Rather, I prefer to offer support and have others depend on me. I get things done. I make things happen – that is my role, my job… quite literally. It may seem a bit hypocritical based on my last post where I dive deep into the benefits of community, and the magic that happens when you get women together to support one another, but I think many women will understand this internal conflict. We are conditioned to be caretakers, and even when we recognized the need in others for community and helping hands, it can be difficult to see that same need in ourselves.
Getting Women Together
My belief in the magic of community and the need to get women together outdoors is so strong that when the event series for women that I was working on was discontinued, I decided to create a new one to replace it.
This new experience would allow women to come together for a long weekend, to find community, learn new skills, push their comfort zones, rejuvenate, relax, play hard, sleep harder, listen to music, drink wine, and eat amazing food.
I had a vision. I knew I could plan it. I knew it would be amazing. I just needed to find the right place. When I found the perfect location and partner in LOGE Camps, I knew that I had to make this thing happen. But I soon realized that I couldn’t do it alone. Thankfully, I was able to assemble an amazing and talented team of women, and we are making it all happen.
To All You Amazing Women
I’d like to give a shout out to the amazing women that are breathing life into AdventurUs Women. You can find some of their bios on our About Us Page, but I wanted to give these special women a shoutout.
Dea – From the first time I mentioned this idea in a ski hut in the San Juan Mountains, Dea’s interest and enthusiasm in supporting this passion project has been unwavering. Without hesitation, she offered to help and has been by my side every step of the way. As our creative and marketing director, Dea has literally brought my vision to life through her creative genius, and her years of expertise have elevated AdventurUs Women to a level beyond anything I could have imagined for year one. There will never be enough bottles of good red wine to thank her.
Diane – Who would have thought that teaching a one-on-one “how to ride a bike” class would lead to a friendship with such an amazing woman. She is easily one of the smartest, most talented, and multidimensional women that I know. She has devoted her career to making the world a better place… literally through social justice work on a global level. And she is always happy to meet me for ramen or at our favorite Basecamp to offer valuable advice and thoughtful insights.
Zita – This woman has known me all my life… she is my mom. For such a petite thing, her strength and energy never cease to amaze me. We are so lucky to have her applying her professional skills from the film industry to the logistical pieces of these events. My outdoor life is something she appreciates and supports but doesn’t necessarily understand, so when she signed up to rock climb for the first time at our AdventurUs Women mini-weekend I was over the moon, and it will be a memory that I will never forget.
Hayley – It is always exciting to see someone get to apply their personal passion to their profession. This outdoor mom is a master of words, fixer of bad grammar, content creator, and most importantly she’s patient. Hayley’s marketing and content expertise are greatly appreciated.
Ashley, Kirsten, and the whole LOGE team – These amazing ladies at LOGE are just as stoked as we are about the Escapes, providing easy access to beautiful places and getting all women outdoors, but making sure we have comfy beds to sleep in at night and hot showers!
Steph – This wise bird, the giver of great hugs, cheerleader with the biggest pom poms, and guider of journeys will be joining us at all 3 events to run workshops, share stories, and be there for you. She has been instrumental in helping me slow down and invest some time in myself and connecting me with the fabulous Geraldine. On this Great Big Journey, I took the time to take a deep dive to discover what I wanted, and what I wanted was to have the courage to create AdventurUs Women for you.
Rachael, Ladan, Lesley, & Kristin – The team that taught me there is no limit to what you can achieve when you are surrounded by smart women, laughter, and wine…. lots and lots of wine.
